Pennies growing as plants

Here are some money saving techniques as the UK inflation increases at record levels.

Using receipt apps to make money of your purchases

As Tesco would say “every little helps” and what could have save some £££ is making money back with money making receipt apps. The way these apps work is you take a picture of your shopping receipt and upload it in the app. The data they gain from you is collated (with other user’s) and sold back to these companies to adjust their products and services towards consumer trends. This in turn increases sales for companies who are selling the right products to the right people. Easy enough and your data is anonymised.  Read our post on the Best Money Making Receipt App UK to find out what we believe is the best app.

Shop around for big or small purchases

It is easy to be sucked into a sales deal that states it is 30%, 40% or 50% etc. off but is it truly discounted at this rate or the retailer just bringing the price down to what other’s are selling it for. This is more important if purchasing a big item such a washing machine or a TV.  My method of finding the cheapest best deal is to find the product you are after then search that product name in Google and look at what price other stores are offering.

Use in store food buying hacks to eat at home cheaper

What I do is find products I enjoy and look for ways to get more for cheaper and more flavourful if possible. For example, I like Tesco Firepit Chinese Chicken Thighs 900G but I find it quite expensive and not as flavourful as it could be. So what I did is try to find the closest tasting marinade / sauce to what is used in the Firepit Chicken Thighs, which is in this instance is called Wicked Kitchen Asian Style Bbq Sauce and then buy thighs such as Willow Farm Chicken Thighs and now I have more product , more flavourful (add as much sauce I would like, can add extra spice too) and cheaper.

Eat good restaurant food that would be thrown away for a fraction of the price

You can use an app called Too Good To Go to save money eating out. How it works is you pay to pick up a goody bag which is essentially the leftovers of food at usually about 33% of the cost. Many restaurants throw away a lot of unpurchased food. The food you get is random but, in my experience, it always has been good value and tasty.

Shop in the bigger stores rather than Tesco Express, Sainsburys Local and Asda on the Move

These stores tend to be more expensive than their bigger counter parts due to the fact these stores are there more for your convenience in additional to the high rent and operating costs of these stores.
